Wilanów Palace and Park & I get measured for a tailor made Kujawy
Agnieszka Sikorska and I were up early this morning. She has to go to work and I will meet once again with Zbigniew. We took the bus through Warsaw to where she works. Zbigniew met us and we said goodbye to Agnieszka.
I had a meeting later this morning with a Tailor, so we first went to Wilanów Place and Park. This is the other of my favortie parks in Warsaw. As the name states it is not only a park but where there is a palace.
The last time I was here in 2006, they were doing major renovations both the inside & outside the palace along with some of the park grounds. This time there was no construction materials.
Although the weather was great, there was only a handful of people. It was very relaxing admiring all the renovations and the beautiful gardens around the palace. Zbigniew was enjoying it just as much as I, because he had not been to the Palace and Park in about 20 years. We spent the next 2 hours walking very leisurely around the park, stopping often to sit on a bench and chat. We finished up our visit at the park with conversation and a cup of coffee.
Next on the agenda was meeting with Magdalena Chomicz at her clothing shop STROJE REGIONALNE. If there was only one souvenier I wanted from Poland this trip it would be a Kujawy. A Kujawy is a traditional outfit from Poland. I was measured for the costume and we made plans for me to return in September for the final fitting. Magdalena was an interesting woman, and excitement grew when she learned that I was a genealogist. She had her own family stories to tell and I learned that one line of her family was able to be traced back to the 1400s. This is not common in Poland, so it was quite interesting.
She had many beautiful examples of traditional Polish costumes in here shop, as you will see in the photos I took. I was very lucky to have had Zbigniew's wife Dorota locate this shop for me. Near the end of my trip I will be able to post a photo of me dressed up in this oufit. If anyone would be interested in having clothing liek this made, it can take 6 to 8 weeks to be completely done. Our visit was completed after I got here contact information.
I will be traveling to the southern part of Poland tomorrow, so I decided that there would be no more touring. We went back to Brwinów and spent the rest of the day relaxing and talking.
