Follow along with me on my journey in life. With this blog I will attempt to share some of the wonderful events taking place in my life and share some of my thoughts.
My work begins, going to Szewna & Strzyźów
This morning I had to say goodbye to Zbigniew and Dorota. My next week will be for some work. I must do some genealogical research for 2 clients in southern Poland. I wish Zbigniew and I had more time. We had so much fun, but I think that is always how it is... never enough time.
I left Brwinów about 8am and the GPS said it would take about 2 hrs to drive ot Szewna, but I have discovered what Lukasz told me.... It always takes longer to get there. I had a 3 hour drive to Szewna, and easily found the church (St Nicolas Parish). I took photos all around the church and then wen to the cemetery to look for family gravestones.
WOW, was i in for a surprise. I have been to cemeries in Poland before and they are not the same as in the States, but this cemetery had gravesites so close together that you had to walk across some of them ot get to other gravestones.
I spent the next 4 1/2 hours looking for gravestones. I felt like a mountain climber while I was doing it. The cemetery is layed out on a hill so I did get quite a workout. Most of the photos were clients family gravestones and I took a lot of photos. I put up a few of the cemetery photos for you to see.
I gave a call to Aleksandra, the other genealogist I was to meet, and learned that due to a holiday weekend, she was going to be late arriving in Strzyzów. My next stop was Stryszów, another city in Southern Poland. It took me about 3+ hours to drive there. I found the hotel, dragged my bags in and sat down and relaxed. Aleksandra finally arrived at about 11:30 pm. I helped her carry her bags in and went to sleep right after.
Tomorrow, some research will begin at the Church in Strzyzów.
