Obituary; Francis L. Schack
Greenfield - Francis L. Schack, 66, of 12 Miles St., a 26-year employee of Millers Tool Co., died Monday in the Franklin Medical Center. He later worked for Hannon Security Co., and retired from there in 1988. He and his wife, the former Janet A. Wonsey, managed the Miles Motel for 13 years. Born in Buckland, he attended Arms Academy, and lived here from 1948. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and served in the Pacific theater. He attended Robbins Memorial Congregatioal Church, and was a life member of Shelbrune Fall's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8503.He was also a member of American Legion Post 83, the Forty and Eight Club, the Order of Moose and the Legion of Moose. He was a former member of the Mohawk Valley Citizens Band Radio Club. Besides his wife, he leaves, two sons, Stephen M. Schack of Colrain and GaryC. of Northampton; six stepsons, Michael N. Crochier of Northfield, Gerald F. Crochier and Robert J. Crochier of Jacksonville, Fla., Peter A. Crochier of Northampton, Paul L. Crochier of Greenfield, and Randy Crochier of Gill; two stepdaughters, Mary Courser of Turners Falls, Montague and Paula L. Crochier of Greenfield; two sisters, Doris Simkus and Lucy O'Neill of Greenfield; three grandchildren; 25 stepgrandchildren, and 10 step-great grandchildren. Another son, Michael C. Schack, died in 1987. The funeral will be Thursday afternoon at Walker Funeral Home, with burial at Elm Grove Cemetery in Montague. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening.
